The Relationship Between Playfulness and Execution Function in Children with Developmental Delay

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of intervention that can lead to the improvement of the executive function of children with developmental delay by examining the playability of children with developmental delay and the relationship between executive function.
Methods: The subjects of this study were 26 Korean children aged 4 years old and their parents who live in Gwangju and chungcheongbuk-do and are receiving developmental disability services in hospitals or child development centers due to developmental disabilities. Playfulness was examined through the CPS, the playfulness scale, and execution function, through the BRIEF-P, the performance function behavior rating scale.
Results: First, as a result of examining the mean and standard deviation of playability and performance function according to gender, girls scored higher than boys in all subfactors and total scores, and the difference was greater in playability than performance function. Second, as a result of examining the difference of playability and execution function according to gender, there was no significant difference in all subfactors and total scores. Third, as a result of examining the correlation between playability and execution function, there was a high correlation between social spontaneity and cognitive spontaneity in the play factor sub-factor and correlation, and work memory and planning organization had a high correlation in the correlation between execution function subfactors. Finally, in the correlation between playability and execution function, the expression of pleasure of playability and working memory of execution function had the highest correlation.
Conclusion: Based on the Results of this study, we conclude that the executive function including cognitive skills in children with developmental delay can be approached through the intervention of play with less objection.
